Scholarship to assist military members and veterans, as well as their spouses, in launching successful careers in real estate
Long & Foster® Real Estate, Inc., the largest independent residential real estate company in the United States, today announced the launch of the new P. Wesley Foster Military Service Scholarship.
The scholarship will allow honorably discharged veterans and currently enlisted members of the military, as well as their spouses, to kick-start a career in real estate through Long & Foster’s Institute of Real Estate. The scholarship covers tuition for the classes necessary to be eligible to sit for the real estate licensing exam in the applicant’s state, as well as the cost of textbooks.
“At Long & Foster, we firmly believe in supporting those who have served our country in the military,” said P. Wesley Foster, Jr., chairman and CEO of The Long & Foster Companies. “This is why we want to do our part to help by providing the means for them to launch a new career so they can support themselves and support their families.”
A firm supporter of the U.S. armed forces, Foster graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1956 and served in the U.S. Army. He has continued his involvement at VMI, serving on the VMI Foundation’s Board of Trustees, the VMI Keydet Club’s Board of Governors, and is currently on the VMI Board of Visitors.
Eligibility for the P. Wesley Foster Military Service Scholarship requires applicants to be active duty or honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces – including the U.S. Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard – or the spouse of those parties.
Applicants must have verifiable proof of eligibility that can be submitted with their scholarship application. Selection of course location and date preference should also be indicated. Seats cannot be reserved until proof of eligibility has been verified.
Once the class has been successfully completed, participants will be eligible to take the real estate licensure test required by their state. The scholarship, funded by Long & Foster Real Estate, is only available for in person classes.
Scholarship availability is on a first-come, first-served basis, depends on local class capacity, and each applicant is limited to one scholarship. Scholarships are not contingent on financial need. The scholarship program is limited, but is anticipated to be funded through the end of 2014.
The P. Wesley Foster Military Service Scholarship program varies by state and scholarship winners are neither required nor guaranteed an agent position with Long & Foster. For more information, visit the “Careers” section on LongandFoster.com, and click on the “Contact” link.
