Inman News recognizes Mary K. Weddle as one of top 100 influential leaders for 2013
Mary K. Weddle, executive vice president of Long & Foster® Real Estate, has been named by Inman News as one of the 100 most influential real estate leaders in 2013. The Inman 100 recognizes executives who, like Weddle, have helped move the real estate industry toward change. According to Inman News, the Inman 100 includes “those who embody leadership, ingenuity, strength, conviction, power, persistence and progress.”
Weddle, who joined Long & Foster as vice president of operations in 1999, currently serves as head of operations for its real estate brokerage, providing support to its more than 170 sales offices. She acts as liaison with Long & Foster’s service departments, supporting the company’s more than 10,000 sales associates, and working closely with its affiliated businesses. She has been instrumental in effecting positive change in a variety of areas, including compensation and commissions, as well as mergers and acquisitions. Before her appointment as executive vice president, Weddle served as senior vice president for Long & Foster.
“Mary K.’s recognition as a top leader in today’s real estate industry exemplifies her ability to help manage and grow a company, both in thriving and challenging markets,” said Jeffrey S. Detwiler, president and COO of The Long & Foster Companies. “Our family of companies has a reputation of honesty, integrity and best-in-class customer service that spans 45 years, and the talent and leadership of professionals like Mary K. is why we remain the top real estate company in the Mid-Atlantic.”
Inman News solicits nominations for the Inman 100 from its readers, and the news organization then makes the final selections, using a pre-defined list of criteria. They evaluate, for example, whether nominees have the power to change their company on a daily basis and whether they have driven change that’s beneficial for both real estate consumers and professionals. This year’s list includes leaders from real estate and mortgage companies, as well as executives from other industries who have had an impact on the home-buying and selling process.
“The Inman 100 showcases so many of the exceptional and innovative leaders of today’s real estate industry, and I’m honored to be recognized among so many notable contemporaries,” said Weddle. “Additionally, several of Long & Foster’s leaders, including our Founder Wes Foster and President Jeff Detwiler, have been part of the Inman 100 in previous years, and it’s a privilege to join the distinguished list of leaders.”
“Under the leadership of Jeff Detwiler and Gary Scott, Long & Foster Real Estate has never been stronger, and I’m proud to be part of the company’s leadership team,” Weddle added.
Before joining Long & Foster, Weddle served as chief operating officer of Pardoe/Pardoe and Graham Real Estate, Inc., a residential brokerage firm in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. There, she directed the operations and financial activities of the firm, establishing its mortgage and title companies. She joined Pardoe as controller in 1993. Weddle began her career as president and owner of ProAction, Inc., a financial services firm she sold in 1993.
Weddle is a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and holds a Master’s degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. She is a Certified Public Accountant and licensed Realtor. She serves as a board of directors’ member of United Bankshares, Inc., and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
