Three levels of opulence surrounded by White Clay Creek Preserve

Long & Foster® Real Estate, Inc., the largest independent residential real estate company in the United States and a leader in the sale of luxury properties, today announced it has listed, as part of its extensive number of current listings, a four-bedroom, five-bath traditional English manor-style home in the Watsons Mill community of Chester County, Pa. Built in 1999, the property is located at 17 Nivin Lane, in Landenberg, Pa., and is listed by Karl Law, a member of the top producing real estate team, Levy Wilson, affiliated with Long & Foster’s Greenville office in Greenville, Del. The property is being offered for $995,000.

“This home is on a spectacular setting in an exclusive community that is surrounded by the White Clay Creek Preserve, a more than 2,000-acre federally-protected piece of pristine land and scenic river. Just as beautiful as the preserve are the home’s interior features which include custom and decorative millwork, large and open living spaces and breathtaking views of woods and rolling terrain,” said Law.

The home’s inviting floor plan offers more than 9,000 square feet of living space on three levels and features such amenities as an elevator, five fireplaces, hardwood floors, two staircases, a full security system, two half baths, and a whole house intercom system.

The main level encompasses large, open living spaces. The custom-designed kitchen is highlighted by cherry cabinets, granite counters, and a vast curved island that can seat up to six, and enjoys spectacular views from the adjoining sunroom. The adjacent family room conveys its own architectural impact with soaring ceilings, a wall of the same reclaimed stone that graces the home’s front exterior, and tall windows that capture views of the deep woods along the rear of the property. There is also a handsome library. Rounding out the main level are formal living areas including a living room and a dining room which both share space with a double-height entry hall. The dining room also opens to an intimate outside walled terrace.

The upper level of the home features a very private luxury hotel-like opulent three-room master suite that boasts soft, artful lighting and architectural detail. The suite has a sitting room and an adjoining master bath with glass walls, marble surfaces, and luxury fittings and fixtures. The remaining four bedrooms, each with en suite bath that feature marble or ceramic tiled floors and showers, complete the upper level.

An open staircase leads to a custom-finished walk-out lower level with multiple tall windows that stream in natural sunlight throughout expansive entertaining areas accented by an enormous wet bar and a billiards room with a full bath and separate entrance that could easily be converted to a guest/in-law suite.

The home’s exterior boasts a circular drive lined with paving stones and a front façade constructed of stone reclaimed from one of the property’s original buildings. The exterior is also enhanced by surrounding professional landscaping, and there is an attached four-car garage.

Historic Landenberg, Pa., is conveniently located approximately 30 minutes north of Wilmington, Del., and approximately an hour west of Philadelphia. Named for Martin Landenberger, a Philadelphia textile manufacturer who owned the town from 1864 to 1873, it is also known for its centuries-old stone homes and horse farms, as well as its namesake bridge that was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The town is also the site of the legendary Ticking Tomb. According to legend, Mason-Dixon rail line surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah

Dixon were mapping the area when a local youngster got hold of Mason’s pocket watch and swallowed it. The boy’s actions prompted Mason to put a curse on the youngster and legend has it that the watch continued to tick inside the boy throughout his life and beyond. According to many literally historians, a visit to the Ticking Tomb by Edgar Allan Poe, inspired his writing the book, “The Tell Tale Heart.” Today, visitors to the Ticking Tomb site will use an array of listening devices in an attempt to hear the ticking.
