On June 6, Long & Foster Real Estate and Prosperity Home Mortgage LLC donated $10,000 to help Ellicott City, Maryland, recover from a severe flash flood that occurred over Memorial Day weekend.

The flood came less than two years after a similar one ravaged the city’s historic downtown. The Ellicott City Partnership, which works to preserve the city’s historic district and support economic growth, has been working closely with the local government to assess the needs of the community, collect donations and organize volunteer efforts. Long & Foster and Prosperity each donated $5,000 to the nonprofit organization during the June 6 presentation at Long & Foster’s Ellicott City office.

“Giving back to the communities where we raise our families and make our living has always been a part of Long & Foster’s culture, starting with the core beliefs of our founder, Wes Foster,” said Cindy Ariosa, Long & Foster senior vice president and regional manager. “We love Ellicott City and it has been supportive of us for many years, so when we heard the news of the flood, we knew immediately that we wanted to help. We couldn’t be more proud to work for a company that cares.”

Long & Foster and Prosperity have numerous office locations in the area, including in Ellicott City and nearby Columbia, and the company’s local agents are very active in community service. The donation and check presentation were led by Suzi Padgett, manager of the Columbia office, who worked in collaboration with Jackie Sellers, manager of the Long & Foster’s Ellicott City location.

“An event like this affects so many of our agents, friends and families, and I’m so thankful to work for an organization like Long & Foster that supports our local communities, especially in times of need,” said Padgett. “Our agents and our company are dedicated to giving back and understand the importance of community involvement.”

Sellers added, “Wes Foster built his company on family, so for Long & Foster and our Ellicott City and Columbia offices to step up and be there for the community really embraces what the Long & Foster philosophy has been from the very beginning. As long as we keep that in mind, together there is nothing that we can’t overcome.”

Tim Wilson, Prosperity’s CEO, echoed Ariosa’s thoughts. “Prosperity works to help people achieve the American dream of homeownership, and the Ellicott City region is vital to our business,” Wilson said. “We have employees who live and work here, and it’s important to us that we help support and rebuild a community that has treated the Prosperity family so well.”
