Just One More Duck: Grove Office Fundraiser Honors Dolly Parton’s Giving Spirit

Dolly Parton once said she was “addicted to the feeling of giving.” We feel the same way at Long & Foster Real Estate, where giving back is central to what we do. After Parton passed away last month, Long & Foster’s Grove office in Richmond, Va., teamed up with Sage Title Group to honor her spirit of generosity and fun by launching a creative fundraiser for her Imagination Library.

The fundraiser is called Dolly Duck. Each team member looks for a bright pink Dolly Duck hidden somewhere in the office. When someone finds her, they post a selfie with Dolly on the office’s Instagram, then hide her again for the next person. Every time Dolly is found in September, a donation will be made to the Imagination Library in Richmond.

For the past few months, the office has been taking part in a “Just One More” challenge. The idea is simple: encourage everyone to do one extra thing, like another act of kindness, an extra call to a client, or just a little more to help out.

“When everybody does just one more, little things can add up to something pretty big,” said Paul Collins, managing broker of the Grove office.

The Dolly Duck idea started with Ali Newkirk’s own “one more thing.” Newkirk leads business development for Sage Title in the Richmond region, and before she worked in real estate, she was an early elementary teacher, helping students of all abilities learn to read. Her passion for literacy and reading remains strong, so when she learned that Parton’s Imagination Library had a branch in Richmond, she knew it was the “one more” nonprofit they should support.

The fundraiser started Sept. 1 and continues through the end of the month. Dolly Duck’s been found several times already, with many more discoveries likely in the weeks ahead. To keep up with the fun, follow the office on Instagram, @longandfostergrove.
