The Board of Visitors for Children’s National Health System’s annual Care for Kids fundraiser starts on Oct. 21 and shopping passes are currently available for purchase. Long & Foster Real Estate, the No. 1 privately owned residential real estate company in the United States, is sponsoring the fundraiser for the fourth consecutive year. Care for Kids is one of the Washington, D.C., area’s most popular charity shopping pass fundraisers. By donating $50 for a Care for Kids shopping pass, local residents enjoy a 20-percent discount at participating Care for Kids merchants during the Oct. 21 to 30 shopping days as well as support Children’s National, which receives 100 percent of the proceeds from the shopping pass sales.

“Since our founding nearly 50 years ago, Long & Foster has been dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and work, and that’s why we are thrilled to once again support the Board of Visitors in their annual Care for Kids fundraiser,” said Jeffrey S. Detwiler, president and COO of The Long & Foster Companies, parent company of Long & Foster Real Estate. “Children’s National has helped so many individuals in our area through its pediatric health services, and it’s our privilege to support them in furthering their mission.”

Denise Warner, a Long & Foster real estate agent in Georgetown and 2016 chair of Care for Kids, shared her enthusiasm for the fundraiser and Long & Foster’s ongoing commitment to Children’s National.

“The Board of Visitors and I are so grateful to Long & Foster for again sponsoring Care for Kids,” said Warner. “This is an essential fundraiser for both our Board and Children’s National, and I’m confident that with Long & Foster’s support, as well as the contributions of our many merchants and other supporters, we’ll raise even more money and awareness for Children’s National.”

Care for Kids shopping passes cost $50 and are available to purchase online at the Board of Visitors website and at most participating retailers. Many Long & Foster offices in Washington, D.C., will also have shopping passes available to purchase. In addition, you can purchase your Care for Kids shopping passes on the new Care for Kids app, which is available for download from the App Store and Google Play.

This year, over 150 shops and restaurants are participating in Care for Kids, including Lebanese Taverna, Bloomingdale’s, The Container Store, Pottery Barn, Versace and Williams Sonoma, among many others. View the complete list at http://www.boardofvisitors.com/careforkids/merchants-restaurants.

“Many participants report on the great savings they’ve enjoyed in past years using this shopping pass,” Warner continued. “The shopping passes typically more than pay for themselves through the savings.”

Children’s National is the premier provider of acute pediatric services in the Washington, D.C., area and has served the nation for more than 140 years. It is the only freestanding children’s hospital between Atlanta and Philadelphia, and is home to Children’s Research Institute and the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation. Children’s National consistently ranks among the top pediatric hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and the Leapfrog Group.

The Board of Visitors for Children’s National provides a critical volunteer force and is an important source of fundraising. To date, the Board has awarded grants and major gifts to the hospital totaling more than $10 million. The funds help strengthen patient and family care, support research, purchase equipment and develop innovative patient treatments.
