The backyard of Ballantrae Farm features a pool and multiple decks for entertaining.

From the “Up” house to a replica of the White House, homes across the country draw inspiration from history and fiction. The Wall Street Journal recently spotlighted a few of these properties in its Real Estate section.

Included in the Jan. 5, 2017, article, “For These Replica Homes, Imitation Is More Than Flattery,” is an impressive McLean, Virginia, estate that’s listed with Lilian Jorgenson of Long & Foster’s McLean office.

Located just outside of Washington, D.C., 1287 Ballantrae Farm was built in 1985 as an exact replica of the Virginia Governor’s mansion. Two presidential hopefuls, Fred Thompson and John Huntsman, have lived in this grand estate, which features seven bedrooms and five-and-a-half baths. It has been renovated from top to bottom and now features a beautiful mix of history and modern conveniences.
