Real estate professional brings over a decade of sales experience

Leading real estate agent John Mentis has been named as the new sales manager of Long & Foster Real Estate’s Arlington office, located at 4600 Lee Highway in Arlington, Va., effective Aug. 1, 2015. Mentis brings over a decade of real estate sales and management experience to his new position at Long & Foster, the No. 1 family-owned residential real estate company in the country. He will work alongside Suzanne Simon, who currently serves as the branch manager at the Arlington office.

“I’m thrilled to take on this new role at Long & Foster and excited to join Suzanne in leading the team of highly trained professionals at Arlington, Va., office,” said Mentis. “Having worked with the Long & Foster team for many years, I know that the firm not only attracts the highest caliber sales associates and clientele, but also provides their team with the best and latest tools, technology and training. I look forward to building the Arlington office and further enhancing the company brand in Northern Virginia.”

Licensed in both Virginia and Washington, D.C., Mentis has lived in the area for almost 30 years. He was first drawn here by the excitement of the region’s central role in international trade and public policy in which he has both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Through his trade association management career—which took him to over 30 countries and Capitol Hill—Mentis developed a strong commitment to customer service and cultural sensitivity. When switching to real estate in 2003, he brought this commitment along with problem-solving strategies, ideas and experiences that he puts into practice to solve real estate challenges for clients.

His dedication to his clients has helped Mentis to achieve similar success in real estate—closing more than 300 transactions worth over $155 million throughout his career. He also has received numerous awards, including being named as one of Washingtonian’s Top Real Estate Agents and as one of Long & Foster’s Top 100 Elite Performers. Since 2011, Mentis has been among the top 20 agents in Long & Foster’s Northern Virginia and West Virginia region. He also earned the e-PRO designation from the National Association of Realtors, and through this training program, he gained the technical skills to work with clients throughout the world.

“Supporting today’s real estate sales professionals takes a highly knowledgeable, experienced leader,” said Larry “Boomer” Foster, president of Long & Foster Real Estate. “We are confident that adding John to the Long & Foster leadership team in our Arlington, Va., office will result in the synergy that our agents thrive on. This is how our company has continued to help local buyers and sellers meet their real estate goals for over 45 years.”

In addition to his real estate career, Mentis is active in his local community. He supports Homestretch, Inc., which fights homelessness in Fairfax County, and the American Cancer Society. He also is involved with Kiva, an organization that helps micro-finance development projects in the United States and overseas, as well as the Potomac Conservancy and the Meadowview Biological Research Station. Additionally, Mentis has volunteered with the Human Rights Campaign and Seeds of Peace.
