Long & Foster® Real Estate, Inc., the largest independent residential real estate company in the United States, has announced that its Vienna/Oakton office recognized the company’s annual Community Service Day by volunteering with Amy’s Army.
The Vienna/Oakton office is just one of Long & Foster’s nearly 170 sales offices throughout the firm’s seven-state, Mid-Atlantic, Washington, D.C. and Northeast region to perform service projects within the communities they serve.
Long & Foster’s Vienna/Oakton Office, with the assistance of Valerie Kappler, adopted Amy’s Army as its Community Service Day project. The Vienna/Oakton Office raised funds from their real estate agents and through the help of Famous Dave’s, Foster’s Grille and Donato’s Pizza. Each restaurant donated a portion of their proceeds for one day, and cash donation boxes were placed at the restaurants and at the Long & Foster Vienna/Oakton office.
Amy’s Army started out in support of a dear friend, Amy Howle, who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 36, and lost her battle in 2011. Amy pointed out that there are people who have cancer but who don’t have the support network, insurance, or friends and family that she did. Over time, the Army evolved to become a registered 501(c)3 with a three-point mission – to raise awareness of cancer (both early detection and living with cancer); to donate money to cancer research; and to provide financial assistance to women affected by cancer.
Amy’s Army provides for expenses such as:
• cancer-related surgical, testing, and other medical expenses not covered by insurance;
• physical and occupational therapy for a patient left disabled by the after-effects of chemotherapy and radiation;
• rent and two car payments for a patient unable to work due to treatment complications.
Amys’ Army has also donated to Life with Cancer, the American Cancer Society, the Breast Cancer Research Fund and more. For more information on our Grant Program, please visit www.amysarmyva.org.
Long & Foster sales associates and employees from throughout the company, including staff from its headquarters located in Chantilly, Va., are participating in a variety of volunteer activities such as working to clean up, refurbish and repair nearby parks, schools, shelters, homes, day care centers and local organizations that provide crucial services to the community.
“Community Service Day is a long-standing demonstration of Long & Foster’s commitment to the communities we serve,” said Jeffrey S. Detwiler, president and chief operating officer of The Long & Foster Companies. “Our sales associates and staff gain a tremendous sense of personal satisfaction by contributing their time, money and effort. Our many community service programs make a powerful statement about Long & Foster’s spirit, commitment and concern,” he added.
In addition to its dedication to serving the community, Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., is committed to the success of its sales associates and is an industry leader in providing the latest and best tools, technology and training.
