Real estate brokerage gives back to local communities for annual event

Thousands of real estate agents and employees with Long & Foster Real Estate, including those at the Blacksburg/NRV, Botetourt, Lynchburg/Forest and Roanoke offices rolled up their sleeves and took part in the company’s annual Community Service Day on June 5.

Long & Foster’s Community Service Day took place at its over 170 locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The annual event provides an opportunity for Long & Foster agents and staff to give back to their communities through a variety of service projects, including food drives, park clean-ups and more.

The Blacksburg office chose to volunteer with the Montgomery County Christmas Store. The Montgomery County Christmas Store, run entirely by volunteers, supports low-income individuals and families in Montgomery County during the Christmas season by offering a dignified and choice-driven shopping experience. From unloading recycled wood to painting clothes racks, team members tackled a variety of tasks to support the community.

The Botetourt & Roanoke office chose to volunteer with Feeding Southwest Virginia. Agents and employees partook in quality assurance tasks from unloading boxes and reviewing expiration dates to sorting and moving products. Feeding Southwest Virginia nourishes 26 counties and nine cities in Southwest Virginia, with a goal to address food insecurity. Feeding Southwest Virginia is the largest supplier of charitable food assistance in Southwest Virginia.

The Lynchburg/Forest office chose to volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Greater Lynchburg. Agents and employees provided meals for approximately 20 households. Everyone found it was rewarding to see the smiles and gratitude on the community members’ faces. The office hopes to volunteer with the organization on a regular basis. Meals on Wheels of Greater Lynchburg is designed to assist the homebound community by providing a balanced, nutritious, hot lunch five days each week.

“Community Service Day is a vitally important component of Long & Foster’s corporate culture of giving,” said Patrick Bain, president and CEO of The Long & Foster Companies, the parent company of Long & Foster Real Estate. “Our team gains a tremendous sense of satisfaction by contributing their time and efforts to the communities in which we live and work.”
