June Home Maintenance Checklist

June is National Homeownership Month! That means now is the perfect time to reevaluate your home and give it the makeover you’ve always wanted. Take some pride in your home and show it off by making it look like its best self.

The following home maintenance tasks will ensure your home gets some TLC and will have you enjoying it, by yourself or with your whole family.

Plan your remodel. Everyone is thinking of remodeling nowadays, so gather ideas for that home renovation you’ve been thinking about. Set up a chat with a contractor to discuss your plans.

Prepare your guestroom. If you’re finally expecting overnight guests to visit this summer, prepare your spare room with fresh sheets, pillows, blankets and a bedside lamp.

Mulch flowerbeds. Adding mulch keeps weeds down, helps the ground retain its moisture in the heat and helps your plants to grow.

Mow your grass. Set your lawn mower blades to three to four inches off the ground to help hold in moisture and prevent weeds from growing.

Inspect deck and patio. Check your deck for signs of rotting wood and hammer loose nails that may be poking up.

Primp plants. Deadhead blooms to keep them productive. Pull out dead foliage from spring bulbs, but leave daffodil and tulip leaves that are still green as they nourish the bulb to bloom next year.

Check your appliances. Give your fridge, oven and air conditioning unit a once over to ensure all are working properly. Also check to see if any of your appliances need updating.

If you’re planning to sell your home this summer, you’ll want it to look its best. Talk to your real estate agent about any other improvements they may have to make your home as attractive as possible to potential buyers.
