May is truly a transitional month. It’s between the unpredictable spring weather and the summer months ahead. You’ll want to get your outdoor spaces looking good now to make them both relaxing and party-ready for the warm weather approaching.
Work on curb appeal: Place flowers in planters on your front porch for a welcoming look.
Fertilize your lawn: Check for bare spots or damaged grass. Make sure you use the correct amount of fertilizer and don’t forget to water.
Check for termites: Take a look at your home’s exterior wood and inspect for any swarms of winged insects. If spotted, it’s best to call a professional pest control company to treat the area.
Reseal exterior woodwork: Extend the life of decks, fences, railings and other outdoor wooden structures by resealing them every year or two.
Prevent mosquitos: Get rid of any standing water to keep mosquitos at a minimum.
Inspect the roof: Visually inspect your roof using binoculars or a camera rather than climbing up onto the roof. If anything looks like it needs repair, call a roofer.
Check outdoor lighting: Clean dirt and insects that have accumulated on lights over the winter. Additionally, replace bulbs if necessary so that they’ll be ready to show off your beautiful yard.
If you’re planning to sell your home this spring, you’ll want it to look its best. Talk to your real estate agent about any other improvements they may have to make your home as attractive as possible to potential buyers.
