The Long & Foster York-Peninsula office was recently presented with the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award by York County.

While Long & Foster has an annual Community Service Day, three years ago the team at the York-Peninsula office decided to continue the community service mission throughout the year. The office voted upon and adopted an organization that would benefit from their support throughout the year. The York-Peninsula office is currently providing ongoing support to the York County Head Start program that primarily serves special needs children that qualify and their families.

The office offers service and support to the York County Head Start program throughout the year in several ways. They partner with their affiliates and local service companies to raise funds to purchase and package school supplies. Long & Foster office members assist in passing those packages out at the Stepping-Up Ceremony. The most recent event was held on May 23 and 24 in celebration of the rising kindergarten students’ completion of the program. Office members took part by handing out school supply packages, serving punch and cupcakes and hosting face painting for the children and families to enjoy.

The York-Peninsula office also distributes additional back-to-school supply packages in the fall for new children going into the program. Furthermore, the office collects and purchases new and gently used clothing for the York County Head Start school teachers to have on hand should a student need a change of clothes. Any surplus is handed out by Head Start to underprivileged children in the York County area. During the late fall and early winter, coats are purchased and collected to be provided to the children and their siblings that are the most in need.

Earlier this month, thousands of real estate agents and employees with Long & Foster Real Estate rolled up their sleeves and took part in the company’s 20th annual Community Service Day. The event took place at the brokerage’s over 220 locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, including its headquarters in Chantilly, Virginia. The annual event provides an opportunity for Long & Foster agents and staff to give back to their communities through a variety of service projects, including food drives, park clean-ups and more.

“Community Service Day is a vitally important component of Long & Foster and our corporate culture of giving,” said P. Wesley Foster Jr., founder, chairman and CEO of The Long & Foster Companies, the parent company of Long & Foster Real Estate. “Our Long & Foster family gains a tremendous sense of personal satisfaction by contributing their time and effort to the local communities in which we live and work.”
