After a career in the US Navy, and a second career as a Federal Civil Servant, supporting the Departments of Defense and State, McCaffery wanted to do something that was completely different from what he had done for the government. Besides being a Realtor, he serves Tidewater Community College as an adjunct professor of political science.

Sometimes I need to remind people that just because homes sell in 30 minutes on HGTV, we deal with the current market.”
