The agents, employees and friends of Long & Foster Real Estate’s Bethany Beach, Delaware, office rolled up their sleeves and took part in the company’s 20th annual Community Service Day in early June. They hosted a fundraiser at local restaurant Hooked Up, collecting over $6,500 in donations for Fisher House for Families of the Fallen at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware.
The Dover Fisher House is unique among all of the Fisher House Foundation’s facilities that operate worldwide. It’s the only one of its kind that is designed to serve the families of the fallen and it is managed by uniformed personnel. The house provides short-term, on-base lodging to families who travel to Dover to witness the dignified transfer of their loved one.
The 8,462-square-foot house has nine suites, each with private, handicapped-accessible bathrooms, and common areas. The common areas feature a multi-cooking station kitchen and large communal dining and family rooms. Adjoining the house is a 1,714-square-foot meditation pavilion that provides a quiet space for visiting families to gather, pray and reflect during their stay. Private donations made to Fisher House Foundation funded the construction of both the house and the pavilion, which were gifted to the Air Force and dedicated on Nov. 10, 2010.
The agents, employees and friends of the Bethany Beach Long & Foster office are thankful to all the community members who came out to support Fisher House by dining and making donations to the fundraiser. They are also thankful to Hooked Up and its staff for hosting and donating to the fundraiser, and to the individuals and businesses who donated items for the auction.
The Ashley Brosnahan Team of Long & Foster, along with other agents and community members, will continue to raise money for the Fisher House by participating in the Army 10 Miler in Washington, D.C., in October. Their “Beach Brigade” running team is welcoming additional participants and donations. To get involved, contact Heather Gates at 302-858-7805 or Heather@BethanyBeach-Homes.com.
