Long & Foster Real Estate agent Janice Allen, professionally known as “The Hat Lady,” has earned the Military Residential Specialist (MilRES) designation. This advanced real estate designation recognizes Allen, who works at Long & Foster’s Alexandria/Old Town Historic office, as an expert in serving and understanding the unique needs of the military real estate market.
“This designation requires specific training and knowledge to assist in the military family transfer. Inasmuch as cultural diversity ranges throughout the area, it is necessary to educate them in an effort to create a pleasant experience toward this lifestyle,” Allen said. “They will be equipped with the knowledge of some of the best schools in the country. Along with my MilRES expertise, there is my military spousal experience of 22 years that will exhibit that their best interest is at heart.
“My military spousal experience has provided understanding of the terms, affordability, familial requirements and shipping involvement, and this will lend toward trust and a smooth transition– a great stress reducer. These are our heroes; they should be treated with respect, dignity and honor.”
Through MilRES, real estate professionals learn the intricacies of working with the military community and gain an understanding of the unique challenges associated with military moves. The program focuses on helping active duty and retired military, veterans and reservists, ensuring they receive the best service possible during a Permanent Change of Service (PCS), Temporary Duty (TDY) assignment or other move.
Allen, a Realtor since 1977, has been affiliated with Long & Foster for 37 years and has been in many Long & Foster clubs, including the Director’s, Executive’s, Chairman’s and President’s clubs and the Gold Team—an exclusive group of Long & Foster’s top producing agents. She also has been a member of Long & Foster’s Sales Advisory Committee (SAC) and SmartMove and presently chairs the Long & Foster Giving Tree program (22 years existing). Allen is also a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and an Investment Specialist.
Allen belongs to the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (NVAR) and is a Life Member of NVAR’s Multi-Million Dollar Sales Club. She earned her associate’s degree at Central State University. Allen currently resides in Alexandria, Va., with her spouse of 53 years and has two adult children.
