Long & Foster Real Estate is proud to announce that Carol Dehorty, a sales agent with the Greenville sales office, has received the Mel Stout Ethics Award from New Castle County Board of Realtors (NCCBOR).

The Mel Stout Ethics Award honors the memory of NCCBOR friend Mel Stout. Stout taught the Code of Ethics course for the NCCBOR for 25 years and practiced what he preached. He lived his life by keeping promises and always doing the right thing. This award recognizes an agent who upholds the high level of ethical and moral standards for which he stood.

“The Mel Stout Ethics Award is personally significant to me, as Mel Stout spent the majority of his career working with my father, B. Dehorty began her real estate career in October 1979 at B. Gary Scott’s Newark, Delaware office where she was consistently a top producer. She stayed in Newark for the next 18 years as an agent and managing broker. She then moved to a competing broker’s Greenville office in 1997 and continued her sales career and became manager of that office in 2004, where she remained in until her move to Virginia Beach. There, she jumped right in to selling residential real estate for a broker there while enjoying living on the water, kayaking and walking on the beach.

Moving back to Delaware in 2011, she resumed her career joining the Levy Wilson group. The group then moved to be part of the opening of Long & Foster in Greenville, where she practices today.

Since 1986, Dehort has taught Ethics, Fair Housing and Agency to Realtors. For those aspiring to become Realtors, she has taught the pre-licensing course for Delaware Tech, NCCBOR, and Long & Foster. She is a recipient of the NCCBOR Education Award.

Dehorty has served on many committees including the Board of the NCCBOR, Delaware Association of Realtors and has been a committee member of National Association of Realtors. She is past president of the Board of Directors of the Delaware Mentor Program at Baylor Women’s Prison; Board of Directors member on the Junior Board of Christiana Care Hospital and ongoing volunteer at the Wilmington Hospital and St. Joseph on the Brandywine church.
