Long & Foster Real Estate’s Shore Drive-Coastal office, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, recently took part in a food drive for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. The Shore Drive-Coastal office collected 141 pounds of canned goods between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Foodbank is a member of Feeding America and serves the residents of roughly 4,745 square miles of the Southeastern and Eastern Shore areas of Virginia. That includes Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Franklin, Virginia Beach, Southhampton, Northhampton, Sussex, Isle of Wright and Accomack.
“The great thing about the Shore Drive-Coastal office participating in the food drive is that our reach extends beyond Virginia Beach to Cape Charles, Captain’s Cove, Onancock – all the way up to Chincoteague,” said Supervising Broker John Powell.
The Shore Drive-Coastal office’s food drive began with a simple flyer, an email and a box placed in the office’s lunch room. By Dec. 22 the office found the kitchen counter was overflowing and boxes of canned goods were being placed on the floor.
Jeremy Johnson, an agent at the office, delivered the donations to Foodbank’s main office in Norfolk. The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and Eastern Shore is still a long way from meeting need.
“Giving to organizations like Foodbank is one of the most important actions one can take,” he said. “In a nation of so much wealth, it’s unconscionable that anyone should go hungry.”
