Nathan Carnes, vice president and managing broker of the W.C. & A.N. Miller Realtors Chevy Chase office in Washington, D.C., was honored as Realtor of the Year by the National Association of Realtors on Nov. 5. W.C. & A.N. Miller is a Long & Foster company.

NAR’s Realtor of the Year award recognizes Realtors who have served both the real estate profession and their local communities. The association has been honoring state and Washington, D.C., Realtors of the Year at the organization’s annual November conference since 1956. Members chosen for the honor are selected for their spirit as a Realtor, their participation in civic activities in their communities, their notable business accomplishments, and their participation in local, state and national Realtor associations, among other qualities.

“I’m so grateful to have been chosen as D.C.’s Realtor of the Year, and I’m proud to have represented the District on the stage at NAR’s annual conference,” Carnes said. “All that I do – whether it’s with professional organizations, helping other agents launch successful careers or volunteering in the local community – is simply because I love my work, my industry and the city of D.C., and I want to share this amazing city with others.”

Carnes, who joined W.C. & A.N. Miller in 2000, has been a licensed real estate broker in Washington, D.C., for more than 30 years. He has served the area’s real estate community in numerous ways throughout his career. In 2001, Carnes was elected to the board of directors of the Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors, which he served on for four years. He also served on the GCAAR’s Nominating Committee and Professional Standards Grievance Committee, and led many other board activities. Carnes served as the treasurer of the Washington DC Association of Realtors in 2008 and became its president in 2009. He then went on to serve a two-year term on the board of directors for NAR’s Risk Management Committee. Most recently, Carnes served on the Public Policy Committee for the District of Columbia Association of Realtors in 2014.

“It’s the commitment of agents like Nathan that has enabled him to earn an honor such as this one, and we’re proud to have him as part of the W.C. & A.N. Miller and Long & Foster family,” said Larry “Boomer” Foster, president of Long & Foster Real Estate. “Our company has a reputation of honesty, integrity and best-in-class customer service that spans more than 45 years, and the talent of professionals like Nathan is why we remain the top real estate company in the Mid-Atlantic.”
