Long & Foster’s York-Peninsula Office Recognized by York County for Community Service Efforts

May 18, 2018

The Long & Foster York-Peninsula office was once again recognized by York County for their volunteerism & support of the Head Start program. During an appreciation luncheon, the York-Peninsula office manager, Kelly Corbett, proudly accepted a Certificate of Appreciation and praise from York County Children and Family Services for the office’s ongoing support to the program. The office was recognized previously by York County with a 2016 Volunteer of the Year award.

Several years ago, the office members decided to adopt an organization that would value their support throughout the year. The York-Peninsula office provides volunteer services and support to the York County Head Start program that primarily serves underprivileged and special needs children and their families.

Long & Foster sales associates and employees from throughout the company, including staff from its Chantilly, Virginia, headquarters, participate in a variety of volunteer activities during our annual Community Service Day. In past years, these activities included cleaning up, refurbishing and repairing nearby parks, schools, shelters, homes and day care centers, and providing other assistance to local organizations that offer crucial services to the community.

As part of this year’s Community Service Day, volunteers will once again assist with the program’s year end “Stepping Up” graduation celebration of the rising kindergarten student’s completion of the Head Start program on May 21st and 22nd. Office members took part in the event in past years by handing out school supply packages, serving punch and cupcakes and hosting face painting for the children and families to enjoy.

The York-Peninsula office members also distribute additional back-to-school supply packages in the fall for children going into the program. In winter, the office members collect and purchase new and gently used coats and clothing for program participants and their siblings.

“Since our founding 50 years ago, we’ve been dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and work, and our annual Community Service Day event is one example of how we do that,” said Jeff Detwiler, president and chief executive officer of The Long & Foster Companies. “Community Service Day allows our team to make a positive impact on our local communities, and our agents and employees thoroughly enjoy this opportunity to contribute their time and effort. Whether it’s through our annual Community Service Day or one of our other charitable projects, we’re truly glad to give back.”
