Real estate brokerage gives back to local communities for 22nd annual event

Thousands of real estate agents and employees with Long & Foster Real Estate, including those at the Easton office in Easton, Maryland, took part in the company’s 22nd annual Community Service Day.

Long & Foster’s Community Service Day took place at its over 220 locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The annual event provides an opportunity for Long & Foster agents and staff to give back to their communities through a variety of service projects, including food drives, park clean-ups and more.

The Easton office was the host of the Talbot Treasure Hunt’s Amazing Race on June 2. The Easton office, which is located on St. Michaels Road, was the starting and finish line for the treasure hunt. Money raised benefits Crossreach Youth Mission Trips where the youth of the Eastern Shore can travel locally and abroad to help the needy and poor by building homes, recreation centers, and even fitting glasses for people who can’t afford them.

Fashioned after the TV show “The Amazing Race”, several teams set out on an adventure seeking the answers to brainteaser clues that sent them to several locations. Upon arrival at the destination where each clue led them, they had to perform tasks throughout Talbot County, such as cleaning crab pots in Tilghman Island, eating a sand bucket filled with ice cream in St. Michaels, performing tasks on a slip and slide, and running over the draw bridge in Tunis Mills.

Each team had a name and a theme.  The Long & Foster team was called “The Treasure Seekers” and team members were all dressed as pirates. The winners were a youth group whose name was “Love Wins”.  “Not only did we volunteer our office, but we participated in the event for the 3rd year and came in 4th place out of 12 teams,” said Martha Witte Suss, branch manager of Long & Foster’s Easton office. “We may not have won, but a good time was had by all.”

“Community Service Day is a vitally important component of Long & Foster’s corporate culture of giving,” said Jeff Detwiler, president and CEO of The Long & Foster Companies, the parent company of Long & Foster Real Estate. “Our team gains a tremendous sense of satisfaction by contributing their time and efforts to the communities in which we live and work.”
