The Long & Foster Companies, parent company of Long & Foster Real Estate, is committed to giving back to the communities in which its agents and employees live and work. Through its Long & Foster Cares corporate giving program, the company supports a variety of nonprofits, including those related to housing, the military and wellness. For the second year in a row, Long & Foster has chosen the American Heart Association (AHA) as its primary Long & Foster Cares recipient.

“At Long & Foster, we truly care about the health of our employees and their families. Supporting the American Heart Association not only fits into our overall wellness efforts, but also allows us to help spread awareness about heart disease and stroke, which are leading causes of death in the United States,” said Jeffrey S. Detwiler, chief operating officer of The Long & Foster Companies. “We stand behind AHA’s dedication to building healthier lives and doing so also provides us with a great opportunity to bring our family of agents and employees together for a worthwhile cause.”

This fall, Long & Foster employees and agents throughout the company’s market area will take part in regional AHA Heart Walks. The Heart Walk is AHA’s premier fundraising event and it was created to promote healthy living and physical activity for those of all ages. According to AHA, more than one million people participate in the 330-plus Heart Walks each year. In addition to making a contribution of over $50,000 to sponsor the walks, Long & Foster is raising funds for AHA with online T-shirt sales through Sept. 10. The T-shirts display Long & Foster’s logo and slogan, “For the love of home,” and cost $20-$25 plus shipping, depending on style. T-shirts with the logo of Prosperity Home Mortgage, LLC, a Long & Foster company, are also available during the campaign.

Additional fundraisers the company has held for the support of this year’s walks include a technology raffle, where tickets could be purchased for a chance to win computers, baseball cap and previous T-shirt sales, and a summer bazaar and raffle. So far, Long & Foster’s employees and agents have worked to raise more than $15,000 for AHA.

Regional Heart Walks will be held in four Long & Foster markets, including Washington, D.C., Richmond, Baltimore and Philadelphia. Those who would like to participate can visit www.longandfostercares.org to see a link to each walk and sign up to take part in the event. Registration for the walks is open to Long & Foster agents and employees and members of the public are welcome to join Long & Foster’s teams. See the links below for more details about each event.
