April Home Maintenance Checklist

April 3, 2017

April is a great month to freshen up your home inside and out. Put on your favorite music, throw open the windows, roll up your sleeves and get started with these home cleaning and maintenance tips.

Wash windows. Clear dirt, grime and pollen from windows inside and out. While you’re at it, take an extra moment to wipe window frames and sills.

Clean and inspect door and window screens. Vacuum screens or to deep clean, remove the screens and gently scrub with warm, soapy water, then rinse and let dry. Keep mosquitoes out by repairing holes with a kit purchased in a home supply store.

Clean window treatments. Vacuum or wipe down blinds with a damp cloth to remove dust. Launder or dry clean curtains.

Organize towels, linens and bedding. Take inventory and get rid of old, worn-out items. Pack away thick winter blankets you won’t need during warmer months.

Streamline your space. Go through each room to get rid of clutter. Remove winter throws to visually lighten the space for spring. Sell unused items at a yard sale or donate them to charity.

Schedule your air conditioning tune-up. Have your air conditioning maintenance done now before the hot summer months arrive.

Set up outdoor furniture. Bring furniture out of storage, dust it off and go shopping for new pieces as needed.

Clean your grill. Scrape grates and wipe down your grill using a diluted vinegar spray to help cut through the grease without using chemical cleaners.

If you’re planning to sell your home this spring, you’ll want it to look its best. Talk to your real estate agent about any improvements or suggestions they may have that will make your home sparkle, shine and help to create a big impact on buyers.
