Real estate firm partners with The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration

Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., the largest independent residential real estate firm in the United States, is pleased to announce that its Alexandria/Old Town Historic District office will join The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration as a Commemorative Partner. The Commemoration is the nation’s program, established by Congress, to thank and honor the Vietnam generation of veterans and their families. It follows in the footsteps of the World War II and Korean 50th and 60th commemorations. As a Commemorative Partner, the Alexandria, Va., office commits to thanking and honoring Vietnam veterans and their families.

“The members of our military do so much for our country and its citizens, and joining The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration allows our Long & Foster team to give back to the veterans and their families who have given so much to us,” said Elfie Biankini, a real estate agent and retired member of the U.S. Air Force. “As we enter into the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam war, we thought it was an ideal opportunity to pay tribute to and recognize the contributions and sacrifices of our Vietnam veterans.

“These veterans served honorably during what is thought of by many as the ‘forgotten war.’ We want to be sure we make these veterans and their families understand through our words and actions that, ‘We thank them for their service and sacrifice,’ and we have not forgotten their contributions.”

As a Commemorative Partner, Long & Foster’s Alexandria office will host at least two events annually over the coming years to honor and thank Vietnam veterans and their families for their service to the United States. The congressionally-mandated objectives of the Commemoration are:

  1. To thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war or listed as missing in action, for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans
  2. To highlight the service of the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and the contributions of federal agencies and governmental and non-governmental organizations that served with, or in support of, the Armed Forces
  3. To pay tribute to the contributions made on the home front by the people of the United States during the Vietnam War
  4. To highlight the advances in technology, science and medicine related to military research conducted during the Vietnam War
  5. To recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by U.S. allies during the Vietnam War

Biankini said her office is in the process of planning their commemorative activities, and they will share details on these events with the Alexandria, Va., community as they become available.
