Long & Foster Real Estate is once again serving as the presenting sponsor of the Capitol Steps performance benefiting nonprofit Cornerstones. The 34th annual event will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Hyatt Regency in Reston Town Center. Long & Foster is the No. 1 privately owned residential real estate company in the Mid-Atlantic.

Cornerstones is a nonprofit organization providing support and advocacy for those in need of affordable housing, quality childcare, food and shelter, with a goal of helping its clients become self-sufficient. The annual Capitol Steps tradition is known as a night of fun, politically-driven satire, and the evening also includes a raffle, desserts and drinks.

“Not only is the annual Capitol Steps benefit a lot of fun, it also provides critical funding for our programs at Cornerstones,” said Kerrie Wilson, chief executive officer of Cornerstones. “Last year’s event was a great success and helped us raise more than $230,000 to help those in need in our community. We’re so thankful for Long & Foster’s continued support of the work we do and for their participation as a sponsor.”

Long & Foster has been a longtime supporter of Cornerstones and a previous sponsor of the Capitol Steps event. For many years, Long & Foster’s Reston offices have worked with Cornerstones by volunteering, fundraising, helping with real estate services and more. In 2016, the company’s headquarters employees spent their annual Community Service Day collecting and packing donations for the organization’s Embry Rucker Community Shelter.

“As we at Long & Foster have gotten to know the Cornerstones organization, we’ve been truly inspired by all the positive impacts their efforts have had on the community,” said Jeffrey S. Detwiler, president and chief operating officer of The Long & Foster Companies. “Because of them, many of us have been moved to do more – including my own family, which volunteered at their Embry Rucker Community Shelter for Thanksgiving. Long & Foster believes in and stands behind the work that Cornerstones does to improve the lives of individuals and families in Northern Virginia, and we are proud to be a supporter of this year’s Capitol Steps benefit.”

Limited seats are still available for the event and can be purchased on the Cornerstones website at https://www.cornerstonesva.org/events_list/capitol-steps/. Tickets are $100 per person, and an additional donation can be made when purchasing tickets online.
