Long & Foster Real Estate, the largest family-owned residential real estate company in the United States and an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, announced it has listed a secluded property within walking distance of the beach in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Located in The Pines at 80 Oak Avenue, the home includes four bedrooms, three full baths and one half bath in 3,400-square-feet of space on 0.93 acres. It’s listed with Bill Cullin, a sales agent with Long & Foster’s Rehoboth office, and is being offered for $3.25 million.

“The location of this property is absolutely phenomenal and is truly unbeatable for those seeking a home in Rehoboth Beach,” Cullin said. “It offers peace and tranquility on Lake Gerar with the ability to walk just two short blocks to the beach. Whether you want to maintain the existing historic home ”“ with its original hardwood paneling and gleaming floors ”“ or take advantage of the expansive size of the lot and build a new home, it’s a fantastic place to gather with family and friends.”

The size of the land parcel at 80 Oak Avenue is unique as it is one of the largest lots in Rehoboth Beach. The home that is currently on the property, which includes many of its original features, can be expanded or a new home of up to approximately 6,000-square-feet could be constructed on the land. Properties of this size are a very rare find in Rehoboth Beach, Cullin said. Although city records cannot confirm the year the current home was built, it is registered with the local historical society.

Upon arriving, visitors to the home are welcomed by abundant trees and gardens and an inviting sunroom. The foyer opens into a sitting room and formal dining room with fireplace. Beyond the dining room is the great room, which has vaulted two-story ceilings and two sets of French doors leading out to a second sunroom. Adjacent to the dining room is the kitchen, butler’s pantry and laundry room. The first floor also includes a home office with attached full bath as well as a library with fireplace.

A staircase in the great room takes visitors to a second floor hall overlooking the great room and leads to the home’s four generous bedrooms, which have splendid views of the surrounding greenery. The large, full attic provides ample storage space for belongings in addition to the home’s basement. Also included on the property are a detached two-car garage, a large, brick patio, a charming gazebo and enough driveway space to park up to another eight vehicles.

It has been said that the property was originally used by the DuPont family as a hunting lodge in the late-1920s after making a deal with the city to excavate the land to expand Lake Gerar and create the subdivision. The home is registered with the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society, and in 1999 the nonprofit organization Rehoboth Beach Main Street honored the home with the Rehoboth Beach Cottage & Town Award.

In 1968, James and Mary Campbell purchased 80 Oak Avenue from local businessman John Townsend “Townie” Tubbs, a banker and the owner of a lumber yard. James Campbell was an executive of Campbell Coal Company, an executive with Esso Standard Oil and was appointed as the American Ambassador to El Salvador by President Richard Nixon. Mary Campbell became the head of the Planning Commission and served from 1994 to 2003. She also volunteered at Henlopen Acres Beach Club and the Rehoboth Art League.
